In today’s article, we’ll take a look at a 3 of examples of content and how it could be improved.

1. ‘We have heaps more designs and styles. Please contact us.’

In this example, the website wants the customer to contact the store to find out about the full range of products. While it is a good rule to write the way you speak (this helps keep language simple), slang like ‘heaps’ should be replaced with ‘lots more’ or ‘many more’.

2. ‘This table will provide pleasure and enjoyment for years to come.’

Be careful with colour words – that is, descriptive words that convey emotion. In this above example, we’re talking about a table, so pleasure is probably the wrong word.

3. ‘The website was designed by Infinite IT Solutions.’

This one is a bit more complicated, but very important. The above sentence is passive, as opposed to active. An active sentence is shorter, and conveys the message more directly. The correct sentence here is ‘Infinite IT Solutions designed the website.’ An active sentence uses this formula: subject (Infinite IT solutions), verb (designed), object (the website). Passive sentences are usually easy to spot – they almost always have ‘by’ in them. Remember, the subject does something to the object, not the other way around.

These are more simple tips to help you write content for your website. Remember, the best tip when it comes to writing anything is to proof-read it when you’re done, and a second opinion never hurts either.
